18 September 2017 22nd UNWTO General Assembly in China: a week of important achievements
The approval of the Chengdu Declaration on Tourism and the Sustainable Development Goals, the approval of the Framework Convention on Tourism Ethics and the appointment by consensus of Zurab Pololikashvili as Secretary-General for 2018-2021 were only some of the achievements of the 22nd session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), held in Chengdu, China last week. 
15 September 2017 Historical decision: approval of the UNWTO Framework Convention on Tourism Ethics
The member States of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) approved today an historical document - the UNWTO Framework Convention on Tourism Ethics. The Convention, approved at the 22nd UNWTO General Assembly transforms the Code of Ethics for Tourism into an international convention, the first in the life of the Organization.
14 September 2017 The 22nd UNWTO General Assembly appoints Zurab Pololikashvili as Secretary General for 2018-2021
Zurab Pololikashvili, current Ambassador of Georgia to Spain, Morocco, Algeria and Andorra, has been appointed Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the period 2018-2021.   
13 September 2017 More than 1300 delegates attend 22nd UNWTO General Assembly in Chengdu
More than 1300 delegates from over 130 countries attended the opening of the 22nd session of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly in Chengdu, China this morning. During the next four days, the priorities of the Organization for 2018-2019, the transformation of the UNWTO Code of Ethics for Tourism into an International Convention and the impact of technology on tourism will centre the discussions. On the agenda of the Assembly is also the election of the Secretary General for the next four years.
7 September 2017 International tourism - strongest half-year results since 2010
UNWTO World Tourism Barometer Destinations worldwide welcomed 598 million international tourists in the first six months of 2017, some 36 million more than in the same period of 2016. At 6%, growth was well above the trend of recent years, making the current January-June period the strongest half-year since 2010.
4 September 2017 China to host the 22nd UNWTO General Assembly
Over 1000 Delegates will gather at the UNWTO General Assembly  “A unique opportunity to get the sector united towards the common goal of making tourism a true driver of sustainable development.” This is how the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai, described the forthcoming UNWTO General Assembly. The bi-annual event, which next takes place in Chengdu, China on 11-16 September, will discuss how to advance the contribution of tourism to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and define the actions of the Organization for the period 2018-2019. 
14 July 2017 Strong tourism results in the first part of 2017
International tourist arrivals worldwide grew by 6% in January-April of 2017 compared to the same period last year, with business confidence reaching its highest levels in a decade. Sustained growth in most major destinations and a steady rebound in others drove results. Prospects for May-August 2017 remain high.

7 June 2017 UNWTO and the JTTA partner to foster gastronomy tourism in Japan
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Japan Travel and Tourism Association (JTTA) and Gurunavi Inc. have undersigned an agreement to develop a “UNWTO Affiliate Members Report on Gastronomy Tourism: Japan.” The report will contribute to capitalize the potential of this segment in the Nippon country and add to the existing UNWTO research on gastronomy tourism. 
7 June 2017 UNWTO and CENFOTUR to launch report on ‘Talent Development, Key for Destination Competitiveness’
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and CENFOTUR, the official training center of the Ministry of Tourism in Peru have signed a cooperation agreement to develop a report ‘Talent Development – Key for Destination Competitiveness.” The report will offer an extensive analysis of the importance of capacity building as a determining factor in the success of tourism destinations, with a special focus on Latin America and Peru.
